Synaesthesia investigates cities through multiple sensory modes simultaneously: sound becomes image, image becomes text, text becomes sound. Traditional urban documentation privileges the visual - photographs, maps, written observation. But cities are sonic, tactile, olfactory. The Synaesthesia project documents the same urban experience across multiple sensory streams and then translates between them.This isn't about creating "multimedia content." It's about understanding how different sensory documentation methods reveal different aspects of the same urban performance. A street market photographed, recorded, described in writing, and then synthesised into sound composition - each mode captures something the others miss. The translation process itself becomes investigation.

Field recordings with the KO II sampler capture urban soundscapes in real-time - traffic patterns, human voices, infrastructure noise, ambient frequencies. These recordings become source material for synthesis work, transforming documented sound back into new sonic compositions. The city heard, processed, performed back to itself. Visual aphorisms translate complex concepts into minimal geometric form - distilling weeks of observation into single diagrams. Written blog posts provide analytical frameworks and theoretical context. Each documentation stream operates independently but also refers to the others. You can enter the investigation through any sensory mode and find pathways to the others.

Field recordings document: What does this zone sound like at 7am? What frequency patterns emerge during rush hour? How does the acoustic environment change between riverfront and interior zones? The result is layered documentation that doesn't claim to capture everything but honestly shows what each mode captures. Visual evidence. Sonic evidence. Written analysis. Synthesised interpretation. Each stream is incomplete. Together they don't add up to completeness - they reveal the complexity of what "documenting a city" actually means when you try to do it thoroughly.
